What’s the difference between ‘sun’ and ‘son’?

Sun and son are homophones in English; they are both pronounced /sʌn/ but have different spellings and their meanings are completely different.

sun

Sun is a singular noun. The sun is the ball of fire in the sky that the Earth goes round, and that gives us heat and light.

The sun was now high in the sky. 
The sun came out, briefly. 

son

Son is a countable noun. Someone’s son is their male child.

He shared a pizza with his son. 
Sam is the seven-year-old son of Eric Davies. 
They have a son.
