What’s the difference between ‘tale’ and ‘tail’?

Tale and tail are homophones in English; they are both pronounced /teɪl/ but have different spellings and their meanings are completely different.

tale

tale is a story, often involving magic or exciting events.

The library has a collection of stories, poems and folk tales. 
The children loved to listen to the tales of King Arthur and his Round Table.

tail

The tail of an animal, bird, or fish is the part extending beyond the end of its body.

The cattle were swinging their tails to disperse the flies. 
I could see a black dog with a long tail.
