This is a new unabridged edition of one of America’s leading dictionaries:

  • Over 87,000 entries including more than 175,000 definitions
  • Irregularly inflected forms, spelling variants, and derived word-forms are also shown, with a total of over 168,000 different word-forms
  • Pronunciation guidance is provided for each word, including over 150,000 audio clips demonstrating the acceptable pronunciations of words
  • Entries for prominent people and places are included
  • Words from specialist language areas, such as science, sports, religion, and mythology, are covered
  • Over 700 synonymy notes discuss the nuances of similar words and the contexts in which each is appropriate
  • Language notes give advice on issues of usage and sensitivity, paying attention to words that are currently controversial or likely to cause offence
  • Etymologies show the origins and history of words

The dictionary has been fully revised and contains more than 600 completely new entries, covering the latest additions to the English language. These include terms such as air fryer, antivax, bromance, bubble tea, chatbot, dashcam, deepfake, gender-fluid, GOAT, incel, influencer, K-pop, long COVID, mansplain, metaverse, post-truth, rizz, and superspreader.

The new edition also includes twenty-first-century meanings of older words:

own … to acknowledge one’s personal responsibility for
