Spanish word of the week: receta

This week’s Spanish word of the week is receta.

Receta is a feminine noun that means recipe or prescription. You can listen to the pronunciation of receta in the audio clip below:

The ‘false friend’ that we will be looking at today is receta. Be careful not to use receipt as a translation.

Here are some examples to help you use it properly:

Me dio la receta de los raviolis.  She gave me the recipe for the ravioli.

Los antibióticos solo se venden con receta.  Antibiotics are only available on prescription.

A receipt in Spanish is un ticket de compra or un recibo.

¿Tiene el ticket de compra del vestido?  Do you have the receipt for the dress?

Si desea que le reembolsen los gastos debe presentar los recibos. If you wish to claim expenses you must provide receipts.
