Spanish word of the week: celos

This week’s Spanish word of the week is celos.

Some words are singular in English and plural in Spanish, such as las noticias the news, and los celos, jealousy.

Los celos le consumen. He’s eaten up with jealousy.

Lo hizo por celos. She did it out of jealousy

To be jealous of someone is tener celos de alguien:

Tiene celos de su mejor amiga. She’s jealous of her best friend.

Lucas sentía unos celos locos de su hermana. Lucas was wildly jealous of his sister.

And to make someone jealous is dar celos a alguien:

Salí con ella porque quería darte celos. I went out with her because I wanted to make you jealous.
